Watercolor and Calligraphy, Teen class

I showed my teen class my calligraphy pens and they were excited to try the pens. They practiced and practiced and had fun trying the different styles. So they found inspiration in some photos to paint and wrote a short phrase/haiku to use to describe the painting.

Pencil Wolf Drawings, ages 8-12

I printed half of a wolf face on some card stock, that a teacher shared on the web. The students used different measuring techniques to draw and check the other half. They also used a full range of pencils 2h-4b to shade and texture the fur. The students learned that by turning the image upside down, you can check your lines and values.

Warm, Cool Color Trees, ages 10-13

We have done many projects using warm and cool colors, divisions, subjects... (faces, birds...) I found inspiration for this project by an artist from another continent. It really spoke to the objective which was playing with warm, cool, tinted colors and using good brush control/technique for the tree shapes. We have been using trees in much of our work lately and I told the students this would be the last one. They cheered!

Tree Seasons, age 7-10

The students designed their own tree shapes and then divided their page into 4 seasons. Painted with tempera on 17x22 inch card stock. I really enjoyed how all the students designed the trees and picked the colors and elements for each season!
