These charcoal drawings were done on textured 17 x 22 inch paper. We talked about values and accuracy in what they observe. I am really happy that all the students took on tough subject matter (they could have just done a baseball). It was a pleasure to watch them work. They checked their angles and the relationship of one part to another part of the drawing. They also did a great job at drawing textures, reflections and shadows.

I was planning to do a Treasure Map Project for a while and finally found the perfect paper. It is handmade, heavy, about 14x18 inches and the right color. So I gave the students some instructions... make a list of things in your fantasy place, do a thumbnail (we always do a thumbnail) design a north, south, west, east directional, border, land, water elements and "x marks the spot"... and I am really happy with their ideas and creativity. I wonder what is in the treasures?
