Colorful Animal Portraits, ages 7-11

The students picked a favorite animal photo and we drew the portrait in pencil. They looked for simple shapes and then filled in the detail. Then they took black crayon and shaded in the dark areas and showed the fur textures. They chose their favorite color and used water color washes to finish.

Cradled Wood Panel Project- camp age 11-14

We talked about "out of the box" to use as a design tool and how it can make a project interesting.
We looked at past projects and examples of uses in magazines, cards...
The wooden panels were a new surface for the class.

Animals times four, ages 7 to 12

The students picked an animal and drew four different views on canvas board and painted in acrylic paints. This gave the students and opportunity to  really see the shapes of the animal and create a fun abstract type painting.

Ink and Watercolor Washes, Teen Class

This is the first of the teen pen and ink over watercolor washes project to finish. I wanted the students to work on pen and ink textures and thought it would be more interesting over watercolor washes.

Color Blocked Animals, ages 9-12

The students looked at animals and broke them down into simple shapes. Then they used acrylic paint to make colorful faces.
