Color and Light on fruit, ages 12 to 14

Last week we worked in pencil, looking at contour, value changes, texture and proportion. This week we added color and reflections... using oil pastel on Canson paper. The goal was to draw life size and to be aware of how the light, color and shadows bounce and relate. I just love what the class did.

Under the sea, ages 8 to 11

We looked at and chose some under the sea creatures. Did the thumbnails, and then worked on quarter sheet watercolor paper in oil pastel. A nice watercolor wash finished the piece. Lots of fun.

Shape, Value and Texture, Ages 12 to 14

We talked about drawing... contour lines and recognizing value changes. Then we talked about texture and did some thumbnails. Then the students drew an orange and egg, keeping proportion, texture, value and reflections in mind. We also did a paintbrush to try other textures.

Favorite Numbers ages 8 to 11

The students had a piece of paper to do thumbnails drawings. But first they wrote down their favorite number, color and some ideas that relate to their number. We shared our ideas and then came up with these fun drawings done on illustration board with colored pencil. Can you find the thing that relates to each number?
