Suns, ages 7 and 8

I found some cardboard disks that are 21 inches in diameter.
I also found some foils that I thought could be glued as part of sun designs.
The students found some great inspiration and created some nice designs using the foils and markers.

Self Portrait, ages 7 and 8

I showed the students examples of portraits. Mona Lisa, American Gothic... by Warhol, Normal Rockwell, Sargent and many, many more. We talked about the use of backgrounds, clothing, color, gesture and expression to tell the story. I like the stories they chose to tell in their own self portraits.

Ball Jars, ages 8 - 11

Value painting done in acrylic on canvas board. I don't have to say a thing. The paintings are wonderful.

Watercolor and Oil Pastel Trees, Teen Class

We looked at using oil pastels to draw tree textures. Then used watercolor washes for the background. Water to paint ratios are learned through practice, practice, practice. And the results are fun.

Watercolor, Teen Class

We looked at some watercolors by Ellen Little, a wonderful artist who was a great inspiration for this project. This project gave the students experience with flat washes and wet on wet techniques. We also talked about composition and value and how breaking some of the rules is ok. Kind of a let's see what happens...
