Middle Ages, ages 8 to 11

This is another of my favorite projects. We talked about the middle ages, kings, queens, knights, ladies in waiting, farmers, nobles, peasants... and the jobs they had. We looked at many library books and talked about the materials used, shoes... Then each of the students got to do a "self portrait" of themselves as whoever they chose and did a small thumbnail. We took huge paper (contractors paper comes in rolls) and chalk and traced each of the students. They then finished the costumes from thumbnail drawings and painted in tempera paints.
